Charleston "Marathon" (It's not a marathon)

This weekend I ran my 3rd big race. Ok 2nd Half Marathon. It was definitely not a big race and I learned I will NEVER run an “Inaugural Race” agAIN. I cannot wait to get an email from, “Charles.” We went down to Charleston Friday afternoon and Kelley and John came later that night. I have decided to list in order the “events” of the weekend in order… and pictures! Yay!

  1. We leave Cary and I pray Adam has packed all that is on the list.
  2. We stop at some gas station for gas and water. Inside this gas station while paying I spot the hard boiled eggs and pickled pigs feet for sale on the counter, while behind me in a booth the worker lady, who is smoking a Marlboro Red and drinking a beer talks about the “nice bar” in town. NOTE: She is working there. I leave and Adam tells me I smell like an ashtray. I do I can literally smell it on me, its as if I smoked an entire pack at once.
  3. The race expo is not open like I said it would be. We drive around the course, and see “Success St.” where in front of the street man is being frisked my 3 police officers.
  4. Kelley calls at 5:00 to tell me they are packing up and coming to the race. I thought I would be running alone. I order my pasta and well, it is disgusting. and I’m upset because I REALLY wanted fried shrimp.
  5. We go to Piggly Wiggly, while leaving, Adam drives down side street with no lights on… oops (during the trip Adam will make 3 traffic violations, running red light, no lights at night, and driving wrong way on one way street to cut across.)
  6. 7:30 I’m nodding off but hungry we go to McDonald’s this is when Adam illegally cuts across one way road. Making my pre race meal, chicken nuggets, french fries and a hot fudge sundae.
  7. Race day is colder than I thought during am trip to Brueggars… Kelley and I are freezing, we go sit in the car to stay warm. John drives around and I spot Yellow Shorts Man peeing in parking lot facing main road.
  8. During Race: it starts 20 mins late. There is no water between mile 3 and 8. Mile 8 says, “sorry no cups” I drink with my hands. I love Mile 8/11’s musical entertainment. “Mile 11, mile 11, over there, your mile 11, mile 8, mile 8. you look great at mile 8.” I tell Kelley I care less about time just want to beat “Green Pants” who rolled her eyes at Kelley. Green Pants has been annoying with her perfect pacing and running on grass, Kelley says we are allowed to beat her so, WE DID!
  9. After race Kelley and I are hungry. Duh, we go to hotel to bather husbands fall asleep. They DID NOT RUN IN THE RACE, we go to outlets, at store Kelley falls asleep holding phone. We go let her nap. After nap Kelley discusses her HATE of meatloaf, I offer to make John meatloaf she is gagging,
  10. At dinner man beside Kelley eats meat loaf.
  11. We walk in rain for ice cream because it’s just that good, we make it there 2 min before closing. Oops
  12. On way back to car in poring rain pickup truck speeds by. Huge puddle wave flies in air and hits me. Yes just like the movies
  13. Adam and I are rewarded the opportunity to sleep in. Now sleeping in is 8:00 to us but hey, that’s awesome.
13.1. No rain the entire trip home… until Cary.

Ok so not a top 10 but quick review of our trip. Needless to say it was a lot of fun but I am glad we are home and we get to see Henderson. He is just so cute with those cheeks. Sadly he didn’t miss me enough for me to put him to bed he still wanted Daddy. Well here are some picture from the race. Endds up Adam packed well but forgot extra batteries so pictures are limited.
